I-Pod Hack Published

Yesterday, in the German Financial times, I read a detailed article on how to unlock the Sim lock on the Apple I-Phone. I had heard that some people in the US had created both physical (hardware) and, additionally, Software that would unlock the I-Phone so that it can be used on any GSM enabled network.

What I find a bit amazing is that a newspaper such as the Financial Times would go ahead and publish a how-to guide for all their readers. Especially considering that the I-Phone is not yet available in Europe and when I becomes available will be Sim locked to T-Mobile. With the unlocking freely published Apple might find it a bit hard to find a willing partner here in Germany to team up with if the unlock is so easy.

Further I wonder if this isn't some underhanded ploy by Apple to sell more I-Phones. After all Apple is the hardware maker here, the more units they sell the more money they make regardless of who the carrier is. Maybe someone at apple "leaked" the info out.

Something to think about...
