Flex Certification Advice

I have been thinking for some time now of persuing a certification in Flex and would love to hear from those of you out there that are Flex Certified how you prepared for the exam.

I am particularly interested in which, if any, books you used in preparation for the exam.

For the Coldfusion Certification exam I used Ben Forta's study guide to round out my preparation for the exam. I haven't been able to find anything quite like that for Flex so your suggestions are appreciated.

julien's Gravatar Hi,

At the time I passed the exam, O'Reilly's Programming Flex 2 wasn't out yet, but I think that I would have chose that one to get more experience with Flex... What really helped me learn Flex and get the certification was nothing else than the Flex documentation(available as a zip file ) and the web(Adobe developer center, quick starts, mailing lists, blogs)

Jun Heider's Gravatar Hi Gary, I did a review about a year ago when I took the exam myself. There's a bunch of information on my take on the exam and the resources I used.

There might be some trinkets there you'll find interesting.

Good luck on the exam!

Shunjie's Gravatar Hi Gary,

I managed to pass it by reading the pdf files that come with Flex. Its free and it covers everything. Pay more attention to Remote Object and Data Services though, which might be 1 pitfall

Gary's Gravatar @Julien and Shunjie,

Thanks, I've downloaded the complete kit all 69MB of it. I guess I will start going through it, after I finish studying to take my motorcycle tests here in Germany (over 900 practice questions!).

Off topic here: For anyone moving from USA/Canada to Germany and want the english translation to the car/motorcyle theory tests let me know. Kinda ticked that they wouldn't accept my Canadian motorcycle license.

Greg Lafrance's Gravatar I took (and passed) the Flex 2 Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) exam April 24.

Minimum score 73% and I got a 77%.

I studied pretty hard for this exam, though I was weak on Flex Data Services. My strength in other areas saved me.

Section Name - Percent Correct
Flex Application User Interface (UI) Creation - 93% correct
Flex System Architecture and Design - 92% correct
Flex Application Programming Fundamentals - 75% correct
Interacting with Remote Data and Flex Applications - 46% correct

I thought the exam was tough! I had doubts I would pass, but I said a prayer at the end, maybe that helped.

I went through most of the Flex 2 developers guide twice, and created 450 4 x 6 flashcards, with about 1200 total questions. I created the flash cards going through the developers guide a third time, but that time not compiling the sample questions, just looking for data that might not be firmly stuck in my brain.

I also used the Flex 2 exam prep software, Attest. It was good, thought many of the questions on the exam were tougher than on Attest. Still, it was reasonably priced and was actually quite helpful.

nn's Gravatar Flex 3 might come out in Jan 09 because Flex 2 might expire in Dec 08

Note: While we are working on the Flex 3 exam, the Flex 2 exam will still be available until at least December of 2008.

Dave's Gravatar I am also trying to get through the flex certification. And in the process hoping that I will be collecting enough information for future flex users
