Flash Lite 4?

Ever since the release of Flex 2 I have been dabbling more and more in Flex and as I recently posted am looking at studying for and taking the Flex certification exam.

I think the addition of Flex to the Adobe line-up was a perfect way to provide the rich features of Flash to developers not familiar, or uncomfortable, with the time-line or stage metaphors (such as myself). Flex opened up a whole new world for us developers. But Flex, as of today, doesn't give us access to all of Flash's markets, specifically mobile devices that are capable of running Flash-Lite.

Flex produces Flash 9.x SWF files and Flash Lite,as stated on the Flash Lite faq, supports 7.x SWF's.

It's true that 9.x content is on the Flash-Lite road map but the question I want answered is when?

I want to build applications for Mobile devices using the tools that I am comfortable with, not have to struggle with the whole time-line, stage metaphors all over again.

Bill Perry's Gravatar Thanks for your post - we're continually looking for feedback from Flex and Flash developers who are looking into mobile development. I can't comment on when we will support AS3.0 in a mobile client but we are looking into it.

Today there is Flash Lite 3 and it supports Flash 8 and AS2.0. Flash Lite 2.0 and 2.1 support F7 SWF and AS2.0.

Best,
Bill
