Six Months Old, How time flies
Just a little over four months ago now we "rescued" a little Labrador/German Shepard from the Animal Shelter and gave him a place in our home and hearts.
I couldn't be happier with our decision. It's really quite amazing how fast they grow (he weights over 20Kg now).
I've grown up in a very dog friendly house but have never learned, or should I say being taught, how to properly train a dog. We bought a couple of books and for the first phase of training (sit, here, down) and house training my experience, and the advice in the books is plenty. But if you want to take it to the next level of training you should really turn to a professional dog trainer, and that's where Sonja Sandomeer from duftmarke came in. Her dog training techniques have really made a difference and I must say our little boy is also a really smart and attentive (I sound like a parent I know).
Time really flies and they grow up so fast, soon he will be hitting puberty and the real test of how well we have trained him will be upon us.
Before you visit a dog breeder to get a dog, take your time and consider getting a dog from the Animal Shelter. Also, don't be afraid in getting professional help from a dog trainer if you are having difficulty!

One thing you might try: Agility training. Being a lab/german shepherd, he's smart and he'll have A LOT of energy, and doing agility might be a good outlet for that. My wife and I have been doing it for the last couple years with great success and loads of fun. The best part, though, is that it gives your dog more confidence and strengthens the bond and communication between dog and owner.
