What Went Wrong?

In my hurry to get my last post "out the door" and let everyone know that yes I am actually still alive and kicking I didn't bother to mention exactly what went wrong. So if you are interested you may read on for a little bit of self deprecation.

A little background

I set up my viviotech VPS in a global manner. This means that all Domains on the box would automatically be routed through Resin. I mean why not right? Railo is IN! My blog is running Railo, ColdfusionCamp.com is also on my server, though currently it's not really in use, and a few other little "projects" which I have that are there and gathering dust (but that's another story). Anyway I realized some time ago that PHP applications don't really go all that well with the Quercus, most of the open-source PHP applications fail miserably on Quercus, at least the version that I have. So I needed to split out the new Domain that I planned on hosting so that it could run the normal mod_php or whatever without running through resin. This meant that I could no longer have a global setup for my Railo applications/domains I needed to have each configuration call up Resin where appropriate.

The Big Mistake

As I mentioned above, I have a VPS and this VPS has lxAdmin, and you just need to add the additional config stuff in the control panel and be done with it. The problem is of course that I have been working so much lately from the command line that when I made the changes to my config file I did it directly through the command line forgetting that any update I did through the control panel will automatically rewrite the .conf file.

Needless to say that is exactly what happened and my mod_caucho configuration was wiped out of my settings!

So lesson hopefully learned, I have not modified all the domains so that any updates won't erase the configurations and also now know where in lxadmin to add the extra stuff!
