Apple Dislikes Android Reference in App

The startup Flash of Genius who develops educational software recently got a letter from Apple telling the company that "it would be appropriate to remove" the reference to Andriod in the product description of their iPhone app in the apple store.

The company made Top 10 Finalist in the Android Developers Challenge with their SAT Vocab application. They referenced this Accolade in the product description in the iPhone App as well. According to the apple letter on their blog providing compatibity plans or platform references are not relevant in the context of the App Store.

The more I hear this sort of stuff the more I begin to dislike how Apple is doing business. It's more like a communist run state where any reference to the "opposition" is removed or the dissident is removed.

Thankfully I am allowed to decide what programs I can install on my MacBook. This latest has left a sour taste in my mouth with regards to the idea of getting another Apple device.

Eric Cobb's Gravatar This whole Google/Apple thing is really starting to get ridiculous. I agree with you in that it's starting to give me a dislike for Apple.

What's going to be funny is when Google has had enough, and starts giving Apple a taste of their own medicine. I can hear it now..."Oh, you won't allow the word 'Android' on iPhone apps? Ok, we won't allow the words 'Apple', 'Mac', or 'iPod' in Google searches." ;-)

Sam Farmer's Gravatar Me too. I'm a huge Apple fan -- the only computers I've ever bought are Macs -- but their recent attitudes are leaving a sour taste in my mind.

Gary Gilbert's Gravatar I got my first peek at the new Google phone nexus one. I can't wait till it officially gets to europe so I can toy around with it in the shops to see how it works in comparison. What I saw of it on Monday I liked though.
